Dan Kinsel was raised in cattle ranching family. He managed Kinsel Cattle Company, a family-owned business, since 1976. They are involved in ranching and hunting operations in several south Texas counties. He is an Independent Cattle Broker and Cattle Feeder, a member and owner of Runnells Peters Feedyards LLC, and a Marketing Representative at Superior Livestock Auction since 1987. Dan sold and delivered a total of 193,888 head of cattle through 2009 for his video auction company. He has been recognized multiple times for selling over 10,000 head of cattle annually and won an award for selling over 50,000 head in one year. He has been a Real Estate Broker since 1980, and owns, Dan Kinsel III Ranch Broker LLC, which has sold more than 77 ranches totaling over 238,000 acres since 2000, and sponsors 6 real estate agents working in the south Texas region. He has been a Director and Shareholder of Stockmens National Bank in Cotulla, since 1990, and was a Production Credit loan examiner, from the Farm Credit Bank of Texas from 1975 to 1976.

Dan received a Bachelor of Arts in Agribusiness from Texas Tech University in 1975. He is a Director, former Chair and current Vice-Chair of the Wildlife Committee in the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, a Director and Life Member of the Texas Wildlife Association, and a Member and Finance Committee Member of the First Baptist Church of Cotulla.
